Selecting work

Types of portfolios: there are a range of potfolios from digital ones to the traditional portfolio books. you can put your work on a DVD's and CD's.it is more benifitial to have a online portfolio or a disc as it is easy to look at and you dont have to carry it around, also it cant get ruined like a book.

I personally think that a client would prefer to see a book portfolio though as they can then see your art work in person and know exactly what it looks like,  and if it looks the same in person,.

You have to select work for a portfolio as you will want to show your best work and it wouldnt be practical to carry around all your work with you and show it as it would take ages to look through it all.

i rekon you shouldn't just select finish work as it's nice to see how you work in progress and how you develope your pieces.

somtimes you can include written infromation if its difficult to understand what the piece is. or to show a bio about you

Portfolios can be used for all types of reasons. It can be to showcase your work, to show information all about you including your other sites , and to demonstrate your skill. It can also be to pitch your work or to sell your work.

how to tell what is your strongest work is by asking your family and friends what they think, or jsut by knowing what artpiece you have done that you feel passionate about.

Organisations

ORGANISATIONS:
Multimedia Design: Multimedia Design is the art of  multiple forms of media. It is used in video games, information kiosks, websites and many other interactive applications. Careers in Multimedia Design can be found in a large number of industries, from Madison Avenue ad agencies to Hollywood production companies. Multimedia Design is probably most prevalent on the Internet where you might encounter a web page using a combination of audio, animation and text. The advertising and marketing industries have jumped on this trend using multiple forms of media to reach a wider audience.
Interior Design: this describes a various yet related group of projects that involve designing different rooms which is effective for the human activities to be placed in that room, or what it wants to be themed.

JOBS IN THE ART INDUSTRY:
Photographer: Photographers take pictures of people, places, or things. They want us to get a special feeling when we see their pictures. They take pictures to sell products, entertain people, report the news, or bring back memories.
Photographers know how to choose the right equipment to give them the best picture. They use different things such as lights, lenses, and film to create a picture. New digital technology is being used more and more by photographers. A lot of them use computers to finish their work.
Illustrater: An illustrator is a narrative artist who specializes in enhancing writing by providing a visual representation that corresponds to the content of the associated text. The illuistrationg may be intended to clarify complicated concepts or objects that are difficult to describe textually.
Fashion Desginer: Fashion designers help create the billions of dresses, suits, shoes, and other clothing and accessories purchased every year by consumers. Designers study fashion trends, sketch designs of clothing and accessories, select colors and fabrics, and oversee the final production of their designs. Clothing designers create and help produce men's, women's, and children's apparel, including casual wear, suits, sportswear, formalwear, outerwear, maternity, and intimate apparel. Footwear designers help create and produce different styles of shoes and boots. Accessory designers help create and produce items such as handbags, belts, scarves, hats, hosiery, and eyewear, which add the finishing touches to an outfit. (The work of jewelers and precious stone and metal workers is described elsewhere in the Handbook.) Some fashion designers specialize in clothing, footwear, or accessory design, but others create designs in all three fashion categories.
Concept Artist: A concept artist is an individual who generates a visual design for an item, character, or area that does not yet exist. This includes, but is not limited to, film production, animation production and more recently video game production. A concept artist may be required for nothing more than preliminary artwork, or may be required to be part of a creative team until a project reaches fruition. While it is necessary to have the skills of a fine artist, a concept artist must also be able to work to strict deadlines in the capacity of a graphic designer Some concept artists may start as fine artists, industrial designers, animators, or even special effects artists. Interpretation of ideas and how they are realized is where the concept artist's individual creativity is most evident, as subject matter is often beyond their control.

Artis Research on Julian opie

                                                 JULIAN OPIE
Julian opie is a contemporary English artist which produces highly stylized work whish involves the reduction of photographs by using a computer software, so he produces less detailed portraits on people by characterizing the people with black outlines with block colours and minimalised detail. So it can be as simple as an eye being just the dot of a pupil, or the nose just being the norstrils. And the outline of a lip. Also he does full portraits where the head can just be a circle with a space where the neck would be along with the body, so it looks like a floating head.
Opie uses sculptures and light installations to present items of everyday life. His style was then reconised more to the public when he did a famous british band cd album cover of the four band artists in the style of his work. He is one of the most leading figures in computerized technology.
Julian Opie studied at Goldsmiths College (1979–82) under Michael Craig-Martin, for whom he briefly worked as an assistant.  His work is held in most major museum collections including The Tate Gallery, London, and MoMA, New York, and he has completed major public commissions in cities all over the world.

Working in the art and design industry
Interior Designer:
An interior designer can do a variety of things in the field of design, and considers the needs of the individual or company that hires him or her. Primarily, the interior designer must blend aesthetics, or the look and feel of a place, with functionality and use of a space, and does so in consideration of the available working area, desires, and budget of the client. Being artistic, having knowledge of building codes, and being able to please the client are all valuable assets for those who wish to have a career in interior design. Having good listening skills, excelling at following through with concepts, and being able to draw, and use programs like AutoCAD® can also be of assistance. Most interior designers are trained in art or design schools, and bring a variety of talents to their profession.

Kim Atkins: Interior Designer
Kim started working as a interior designer in 1987, where she ran her own business called Kim’s Interiors from 1987 till 1993, she then went on and worked at ‘kingfisher Group’ from 1993 till 1999 where she co-ordinate revamp store set designs and organized staff product and skills training.

These are two examples of Kim’s work, the top one is where she was a guest designer for a national magazine called home flair. The bottom one is from a home visit where Kim and her collogue designed a new bathroom for a couple.

Graphic Designer:
A graphic designer or graphic artist conveys information through visual solutions that promote or enhance a service, product, philosophy or entity. Graphic design is a professional umbrella term for a skill set that can be applied to a wide range of positions. A good graphic designer has strong interpersonal and marketing skills, in addition to a keen eye and an adept knowledge of electronic media packages.

Graphic artists work with a variety of materials, including film media, animation, sound, images, illustration, type, color, and “white space.” The first step of any project is to identify the needs of the client. The designer must also consider the target market, taking social or cultural considerations into account. The process normally starts with a hand-drawn or electronic sketch of the layout, followed by a mockup presented for approval. A mockup that is attractive but fails to convey
